Community Information & Resources - Community Houses & Centres

155 Whare Āwhina is a place where you and your whānau are valued, respected and accepted for who you are. They are community advocates, lawyers and social workers, there to help you and your whānau. They provide free legal advice through their 155 Community Law centres in Whangārei and Kaikohe, can help with whānau support, WINZ, housing, and are there to support anyone who is homeless with shelter at their 155 Open Arms day centre. Their food bank provides free food parcels twice a week, and 155 Open Arms serves free meals twice a day, six days a week.

Bay of Islands Community Centre Incorporated was set up to run community activities and services.Their activities include:• A Carer's group for those with dementia every 2nd Thursday from 10am to 11:30am• Toastmasters every second Thursday of the month at 7pm.

The Bream Bay Community Support Trust seeks relationships that create opportunities that support safety, well-being and autonomy for the people of Bream Bay, Northland. Whānau Ora health clinics are held twice weekly at the Bream Bay Community Support Trust.

Kaitaia Community House is managed by Far North Budgeting Management Inc. The house's kaupapa is to provide information, advocacy and a welcoming space, while the budgeting service provides free, confidential and culturally sensitive financial advice; educating people to better manage their finances.Open Monday - Thursday 9am- 4pm. FRIDAY 9.00am to 3.00pm.

Kaitaia People's Centre - Nga Hoa Awhina Inc provides information and advice on:• NZ Laws• Family Court• Consumer Rights• WINZ• Employment• Human and Disability Rights• Maori Waitangi Tribunal information. They offer free legal clinics with their lawyers on a fortnightly basis. When necessary, their staff support clients in out of office advocacy. They also provide free and confidential social services to anyone who requests them. They are open Monday - Friday 9:00am - 2:30pm. No referral required.

Parua Bay Community Centre is a community sports hub venue which is available for hire (includes kitchen). The Centre has squash courts and badminton facilities, and the local rugby club is based there. Local Yoga & Pilates groups also use the centre.

Smeaton Drive Community House hosts community days and is available for hire.

South Hokianga Community Support Trust provide family support, information and advisory services. They also offer on a free basis, pre-loved clothing items, household appliances, and any other items that are donated by the community.  At times they are able to offer emergency food vouchers for local grocery shopping.

The Pā is a Community Centre in the heart of the Kaeo township that was formed and funded by a Community Group and Whangaroa Health Services (WHST) to support and promote healthier lifestyles for the residents and young people of the wider Kaeo/Whangaroa rohe.The Pa provides a range of activities in the day and evening, including personal training and group fitness activities.

Whatitiri Community Centre is a community hall for the residents of Whatitiri and surrounding areas. It is available for hire and community meetings.
